In September 2000, artist Marie Watt installed a 4 ton slate sculpture in the shape of a bridge at the east end of the Steel Bridge. Watt’s intent was to create an installation that was intrinsically pedestrian—in its interaction with foot traffic, in its subject matter, and in its material.
