Banners installed on the Nanaimo Art Gallery that present Kwakwaka’wakw symbols from where Nicolson’s ancestors are from near Gwa’yi. This site-specific work also speaks to the relevance of its location at Wharf street, which ran parallel to what used to be a tidal inlet, but has since been filled. I haven’t been able to find a lot written about this work and wanted to follow up with Marianne, but haven’t had time.
