Near a bust of “Chief Seattle” are two porcelain-enamel-on-steel panels created by Native American artist Edgar Heap of Birds. The double-sided panels, entitled “Day/Night,” feature quotations in both English and Lushootseed (Chief Seattle’s native language). The passages convey in a contemporary medium the sentiments of the Chief’s famous speech given during the treaty negotiations of 1854,
